Poster Breakdown
Fiery Background
The fiery background seems important with the poster and is one of the largest highlights of the background. It gives the effect of a foreshadowing event which teases the storyline.
Natural Hilly Forest Background
The natural, peaceful, beautiful background of the forest brings contrast to the fiery foreshadowing event. This is contrasted as it seems to be a before image of the peaceful times or another foreshadowing of the end result of the journey that is the games main storyline.
Runes
The Nordic Runes turns up twice and is one of the main points in the storyline and theme of the game. It seems like those runes are also a teaser to the plot but it also sets the theme of historical, tribal and mythological events. The inclusion of the triskelion aids this in the advertising campaign but this isn't in the poster.
Main Character
The main character is the main part of the poster and is in incredible detail. This detail adds recognition as to what eh character has been through or will go through due to trauma that could occur. The character's stare adds tension and promotes one of the major themes for the game. Suspense. The trauma is mental and the look Senua has that shows this.
Complexion
The character is so detailed that the complexion of her skin and the scars are all clearly visible and this helps you to understand the character. The scares give har a warrior vibe and the detail is the reason why this is so effective.
Title
The title's font conveys tension and also gives an "epic" feel. This also has a look similar to steel which is a metal used in swordcraft. This links into the name of the game, Hellblade. It also links to Senua's main weapon a sword.
Smoke
The fog and clouds help to bring mystery and also convey a cold, dangerous type of journey. This feeling is portrayed because of games using fog and cloud cover as a way to build tension and develop the feeling of uncertainty and fear of the unknown.
