Naughty Dog used to be the third party and used to be called Jam Software. Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin. Just before Crash Bandicoot (1996) they rebranded to Naughty Dog which they are now known as. In 2001 Playstation bought Naughty Dog so they are now a 1st party developer.
Of all the games Naughty Dog has made, their most recent games are the more highly rated ones. The Uncharted series (the mainstream one so games 1-4) were successful and good quality games that fans loved. Uncharted and Crash Bandicoot.
Naughty Dog has a rough Annual Revenue of £346 Million which means they are one of Sony's best First-Party developers much alike Guerilla Games (the makers of Horizon Zero Dawn). Naughty Dog has roughly 225 Employees and have made 23 games.
1st party
These are generally development teams solely owned by larger companies which make platform exclusives such as naughty dog's Uncharted series which is a PlayStation exclusive. This is a plus side to make people buy their consoles to play the games. This ties fans of a franchise to a console to be able to play the games of the franchise they love.
2nd party
A company that is either partly owned by a console party publisher or partly owned by a publisher. Essentially, a 2nd party studio is an independently owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders. The product the company makes will usually be exclusive to the platform the holder owns/makes/produces
3rd party
Companies that are independent or ones that sign a contract a game to sell it to one publisher. Freelancing studios are generally what are in these categories and are generally mobile game creators. Companies like Rockstar are independent and could have been classed as this. Rockstar buys studios and renames them to be branded. The studio that made Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTAV are bought studios so could be classed as a 2nd party studio.
Freelance developers that make their games for who they want to but can be hired to make a game for one company.
