Bartle's Taxonomy
Personally, I agree with my Results. Honestly, I would have given myself more killer points but that's probably just going to exaggerate the results a bit more. The reason I feel like they are accurate is that when I play Wildlands or RDR2 I do the exact things in preference to the percentages I got. That's the order I like to do things!
I feel like Hellblade would appeal to Achievers, Explorers and Killers. Both Explorers would want to play to do the puzzles and find areas which are a major part of the game. Achievers would be interested because of the in-game and out of game achievements to be completed. Killers would possibly be intrigued but it's unlikely. This is because its all PvE so there are no other players. This takes me to socializers. This game would not be interesting for them as there is no online access. This game would only be remotely interesting for people like them because of forums in which they can help other players.
PEN PORTRAIT
John Abernathy - My Basis for the Hellblade Target Audience Review
I would suggest that the people who would play Hellblade would be late teens towards early twenties. Roughly 17 to 23.
Something they like to do at the weekend
This type of person probably likes to stay inside and sleep or play video games. They probably maximise as much time as they can to play video games over socializing or working.
Gender
Mythology is interesting to either side of the gender spectrum but personally, I would say that the game is tailored more to a male audience.
Lifestyle
Personally, I would say that the type of lifestyle would be tailored to a student lifestyle. Sixth Form College or University. This type of person probably doesn't have a cart and if he does it would be an old one. This person probably doesn't have a job and may even live in his mother's basement.
Favourite book/film/game
I would suggest that this person's favourite film or book would be tailored to a mythology theme. Regarding themes, I would suggest a film like Dragon Heart and when it comes to books I would suggest a tetralogy such as the Inheritance Cycle. I would suggest that their favourite videogame would most likely be World Of Warcraft.
Where they go on holiday/who with
This person probably goes on holiday with their family rather than by themselves or with their friends. This person probably goes somewhere remote like Yorkshire or areas of Wales. My reasoning for this is the historical landmarks from nearby areas.
Three things in their pocket or bag
This type of person probably has a bag like a rucksack or a messenger bag. Most likely they either have headphones or a headset in their bag and probably even a computer. THeir probably a film studies, game studies or media student who likes to play games in their own time so has probably got a mouse with them at the same time.
Worries
This person probably worries about things like exams or coursework. I would also suggest that they get stressed when their technology doesn't work as they seem like the type of person who would depend on others to fix things that go wrong in their life.
Job
This person probably doesn't work out of laziness or lack of opportunity. They, as a student, would probably be spending their time studying so would have a part-time job such as a cashier at a supermarket or a similar job.
Best friend
This person probably has a couple people which he is close to but none that are an actual best friend. This type of person is probably better at online interactions than physical ones. He probably tries to keep to himself and hides facts about himself to people he isn't close to.
Favourite item of clothing
This type of person probably has a hoodie which would be his/her favourite piece of clothing. I say hoodie as this person probably spends most of his/her time indoors like a hermit. Hoodies are good for that type of lifestyle as their easy to put on and take off but are also really comfortable.
Most loved/hated thing
This person probably hates interaction and loves silence. generally, I would say this person loves things like food, gaming and music such as Future bass, EDM, Electronic or Trap. Generally for the upbeat pace and bass drops.
Spending power
I would suggest the spending power to be relatively low which is improved by the low preorder price. I would also suggest that this type of person plays with a cheaper console like the Xbox One rather than a PS4. I would also release the game around July because it's the middle of the year and gives the target audience time to get some money after Easter and Christmas yet still gives them enough time to gain more money for Halloween and future events. I suggest that this type of person probably has around £15 per month they can spare on something like a game so would have to save up for a few months. I am thinking that our target audience would be earning around £60 a week to around £80 a week. However, this is being rather optimistic.
Task 7, 8, 9
I think that my pen portrait details a "Typical Hellblade Player". I think this because I based it off people I know who play Hellblade and asked them most of the questions myself. Because of me doing this I got an accurate census to base my pen portrait on which helped me decide on certain factors such as the necessity of a love of mythology.
There are 4 key things that most if not all Hellblade players would be needed to enjoy. These are Mythology, History, Religion and Basic Combat mechanics which repeat continuously. These are important as the game has a continuous theme of Mythology, Fantasy, History and Religion which is key to the storyline. The combat Mechanics being similar is just another reason for someone to like a repetitive theme that doesn't change. Overall I feel this will intrigue the player if they are into these themes purely for the storyline.
The influences of the storyline and themes of it are what will bring players in and I feel the mythology is the main influencer. The influence that this provides is a major part of the storyline, if not most of it. Especially when you bear in mind that the whole plot is based on a journey to a mythological land where Senua's Husband can be resurrected by a goddess. The main games that I feel are similar enough to Hellblade to intrigue the players to play are games like Elder Scrolls. They play in a similar way and have the same themes. Because of this, I feel if someone who liked games like Elder Scrolls were to play Hellblade, they would most likely enjoy it.
Hellblade trailer selling point reviews
I feel like the E3 trailer is tailored partly for people who enjoy thriller products. This trailer has a continuous theme with suspense and these grips viewers. Mental trauma and the effects of it is definitely one that is portrayed as the main selling point for the game.
I feel like the PS4 trailer is tailored to more of a suspenseful, eerie, mental type of audience. The mental aspect is tailored to ps4 gamers as they tend to play more mature games such as the Farcry games or Games like that.
